She was a graduate of the Rosemont School of the Holy Child and Holy Child High School. She graduated
from Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education it 1972.
She received a Master of Science in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1973 with a
concentration as a Reading Specialist.
She worked as a reading specialist at Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Boston as a part of a juvenile critical care
team from 1974 - 1975.
ln 1975, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and was the first patient in the US to receive cutting-edge
treatment for what was previously considered to be an inoperable condition. She suffered from many serious
lasting effects of the tumor for the rest of her life.
In the 1980's, while employed at Glaxo Smith-Klein, she created and maintained a reference book to assist
medical personnel and laypersons in identifying drugs through their visual characteristics.
She married Dennison Knewstub (died 2008) in June of 1990 and became the stepmother of Justin Knewstub
and Katie Hilpert.
She is remembered by her brother and sisters, John McConnell, Kate McConnell and Jane Greenspun (died
2016) for planning and taking charge of fun games and adventures while they grew up in Gladwyne and
Rosemont. She wrote, produced, and directed plays for the entertainment of the family and neighborhood
children.
She is remembered fondly as Mame by her brother and sisters and their spouses Eric Greenspun and
Gwen McConnell and her nieces and nephews Dan Greenspun, Annie Berger (husband, Rory), John
Blake McConnell (wife. Kim), Mafthew McConnell (wife, Kate), Michael McConnell, Kary McConnell
Malonoski (husband, Bobby) and her great-nephews and great-nieces Teddy McConnell, Cece McConnell,
Lucas McConnell, Ava McConnell, Lucy Berger and Abby Berger. |
